Construction of a the Edison Mall Transfer Station is complete, and buses are in and out! The finished canopy allows for the loading of up to (8) buses at a time, and is protected from the weather. The project also includes an office, restroom facilities, sheltered seating areas, and security cameras. Thank you to everyone who assisted in the successful completion of this project.

If you have driven over the bridge to Fort Myers Beach, you have probably noticed the changing appearance of the future home of Diversified Yacht Services. As you can see from the aerial photos above, all of the floating docks have been installed, construction of the site wall has begun, and the interior floor slabs have been poured. Yacht services project collects Merit Award

A construction project -one that Fort Myers Beach residents and visitors can easily notice while driving over Matanzas Pass Bridge due to the tilt walls adjacent to the bridge- recently received recognition.

Brooks & Freund, LLC became a recipient of the Merit Award – Commercial Contractor- Industrial Project of the year, for their project, Diversified Yacht Services, at the Summit Awards held at Sanibel Harbour Marriott Resort & Spa last month.

Created in 2006 by the Commercial Contractors Council of the Lee Building Industry Association, the annual Summit Awards provides an opportunity to recognize excellence within the commercial and remodeling industry. This year’s event was held Oct. 15.

“It’s always great to get noticed,” said Ryan Levi, chief operating officer for the family ownership at Diversified Yacht Services. “The builders and architects at Brooks & Freund mainly deserve this award for putting in the work with such a beautiful design.”

The Diversified Yacht Services, Inc. project involves the company erecting two new facilities at the former site of the Fort Myers Beach Marina at 751 Fisherman’s Wharf. The main facility is designed to be a 65-foot-tall air-conditioned structure with the ability to withstand hurricane winds of up to 150 miles per hour, while the combined facilities involve 60,000 square feet of floor space.

On site, Diversified Yacht Services will provide comprehensive services for water vessels of all types and sizes from small flats boats to large yachts that can accommodate vessels of up to 110 lineal feet in an indoor climate-controlled structure. Many slips, accommodating boats ranging from 30 to 80 feet in length, will be available for lease.

The yacht service property also will house indoor paint booths, a 150-ton travel lift and full waterside fueling facilities with gasoline and diesel capabilities. Diversified Yachts, which boosts Mercury products, will be able to provide dry storage and service facilities and have the ability to haul boats up to 125 feet long out of the water -something not common to this area.

“Typically, vessels in the 60-footand-above range travel from the Gulf coast to the Ft. Lauderdale/ Miami area for their annual maintenance service. This inconvenience will no longer be necessary once the new service facility is operational,” said Levi. “We’ll now be able to take care of them on the Gulf Coast.”

Site work for Diversified Yacht Services began in the spring with the demolition of the prior structure and leveling of the ground. Complete construction is on schedule for the anticipated August 2012 time frame. Docks and fueling services at the site are expected to be finished in early 2012, while the ship store and waterfront buildings are expected to begin operations in March 2012.

Back in January, Levi stated that the project held a cost of $20 million (including lien purchase) and that the business is expected to double its present employee load of 20 when finished. The project is reportedly still on budget.

“Diversified Yacht Services has earned a reputation for quality and reliability that is catapulting growth,” he said. “This new facility is a significant milestone for our company, and it will greatly enhance the area’s appeal to boaters as well.”

Founded as a mobile yacht service business for absentee owners, Diversified Yacht Services has been around since 1994 and owned by the Levi family for the past three to four years.

Levi said Matanzas Pass Bridge travelers will see a difference in the viewable structure in the future.

“The tilt walls are in place. Once we get the architectural effects and the paint on it, it’ll look less like a concrete block and more attractive as a completed product this summer,” he said. “While it is unique we can take care of large jobs, we’ve been able to keep our rates competitive with other service providers in the area regarding smaller vessels as well.”

Alico Lakes # 2 Project Update

The project, Alico Lakes # 2, located across from Gulf Coast Town Center is progressing and changing daily. You can see from the photos below that metal roofing and painting are almost complete at the stair and elevator towers. Inside the team is hanging and finishing drywall in the common areas. Lee Building Industry Association 2011 Industry Awards were held at Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa on Saturday October 15th. Brooks & Freund took home the Merit Award for Commercial Contractor Industrial Project for Diversified Yacht Services. Diversified Yacht Services started with the demolition of the marina and boat storage facility that was a long-standing fixture at the mainland foot of Matanzas Bridge on Fort Myers Beach. Construction is underway on the new 50,000 SF large-vessel service facility, and the 10,000 SF harbormaster outpost. The yacht service facility houses indoor and outdoor paint booths, a 150-ton travel lift, and full water-side fueling facilities; the 80 foot tall air conditioned structure can accomodate vessels of up to 110 lineal feet and is designed to withstand 150-mph winds. Once Complete, the facility will be one of the first of its kind on the Florida Gulf Coast.

Sunrise Park Coming Along!

Sunrise Park Update! Currently concrete base rock is being installed as prep work for asphalt on the parking lots of buildings 1-4 combined with the road along the southern section of the site. Ongoning work continuing on the exterior of the buildings, metal roofs, stucoo, hardy sididng trim. Painting has begun on the exterior as well!
